Working on paper and the impact of AR on society
I have been working on paper to document my journey discovering artists practice and explore the AR in the everyday. The juxtaposition of imagery and text has been something I have worked with all my creative life and has seen me develope my graphic design career. To be able to go back to the sketchbooks that I loved to create, has allowed a freedom that releases my unconscious mind to play.
Unconscious play and the interpretation of the world using AR will have a huge impact on society:
“There will be hundreds of millions of phones that will be AR ready. And the current stage is … we are helping developers … build the experiences … so that it becomes a daily habit. And once it does, I suspect the natural evolution of monetization comes through. Augmented reality (will become) a core feature…” — Amit Singh
Building habits, enabling commerce and making AR invaluable to everyday existence will create a new wave of creative development. Art and Augmented Reality is being monitored by NFTs, our societal habits have changed after the Covid-19 Pandemic. QR codes had all but died in Marketing and communication, I have even been taking QR codes off publications because they simply didn't work for the organisation I was working for.
The pandemic has made our hand held devices a life line to our existence, we have become used to being a cashless society, we scan our own shopping and leave the store by blipping and paying for it all, we allow ourselves to be tracked and warned about interactions with 'covid cases'.
Scott Belsky in his quote below shows how the leap we have already made as a society, will allow AR just to remove the friction of our everyday annoyances...
"Well we believe that augmented reality is one of those new mediums that could be as big as if not bigger than the web. One of the areas where consumers adopt something new is when it makes something drastically easier. When I think about augmented reality I think about instances like finding your way somewhere, finding your friends in a stadium, or going to a conference and looking around and knowing who everyone is because their LinkedIn profile is hanging over their heads… I think we will start finding a lot of things like that where AR just removes friction” — Scott Belsky
